Words Hold Power

It’s important to watch the words we speak. This was one of the first things I had to learn. I didn’t realize it, but I was speaking words contrary to God’s will for my life and for my family’s life and thus experiencing chaos. How many times have we said things like, “Well, I don’t think that’s going to work.” It won’t work then because that’s what is believed down deep in the heart.

I’ve often heard people say that it’s flu season and that they hope they don’t catch it. Sometimes they say, “I feel the flu coming on.” If you believe that each flu season, you’ll catch the flu, then you will catch the flu. You are giving life to those very words.

Whatever, we truly think will flow out of our mouth. From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). We must change our hearts and to do so, we must focus on what God says in His scripture.

According to Proverbs 18:21 “life and death are in the power of the tongue.” When you are in a battle, speak the outcome you want and find scripture to support it. Don’t say anything to the contrary of what you want the outcome to be. Don’t speak your thoughts or fears out loud speak only what God says. I had to make a conscious effort to watch the words that I spoke and when I did, I saw my life completely transformed!

God created the world by speaking words. You can clearly see this in Genesis 1:3, “And God said, “Let there be light…” then again God spoke in verse 6, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” Look at verse 9, verse 11, verse 14, verse 20, verse 24, verse 26 … each time God spoke, it became just as He spoke the words. Look at John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

It’s still that way today. The very words we speak hold power. What are you speaking about yourself? What are you speaking over your children? What are you speaking about your health, your finances, your day-to-day situations? If you find yourself struggling in life with mishaps and even chaos surrounding you, take a close look at what you are saying out loud. Because whether you realize this or not, your very own spoken words create your very own outcome.

James 3:3-12 compares our tongue to the bits in a horse’s mouth and the rudder of a ship, in steering our lives. Allow that scripture to sink in on the power of the spoken word. That tiny little tongue holds great power throughout the course of our lives.

When I realized how powerful words were in my life and how powerful God made them to be, I began speaking God’s words over my life. The more I spoke God’s word, the more it sank down into my heart. The more it sank down into my heart, the more faith would rise in me, believing God’s word over anything that I was facing.

I began to take scripture and personalize it to fit the situation that I wanted changed and then would speak that aloud, slowly seeing the change take place.

Here are some scripture declarations to help you get started:

Healing:

  • Psalm 107:20 – “He sent out His word and healed them; and rescued them from the grave.”

Declaration: God sent his word and healed me and delivered me from destruction.

    • Proverbs 4:20-22 – “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s body.”

Declaration: I pay attention to what the Lord says and keep His words in sight and within my heart, for they are life to me and health to my whole body.

    • Acts 3:16 – “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man who you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.”

Declaration: By faith in the name of Jesus I am made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that makes me well.

    Fear:

    • 2 Timothy 1:7- “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of sound mind.”

Declaration: God does not give me a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, of love and sound mind.

You can absolutely change the course of your life with the words you speak. Choose your words wisely! I want to encourage you to turn to God’s word and speak what He says because His word is alive and true to this day! His Word will TRANSFORM your life! Hallejuah!

    Blessed beyond measure,
